99th Anniversary of the Founding of Our Republic Celebrated with enthusiasm at our university

On the occasion of the 99th Anniversary of the establishment of our Republic, the “29 October Republic Day Ceremony” was held at our university between 10:00 and 11:00 on October 28, Friday.

Many students, especially our academic and administrative staff, attended the ceremony. Taking the floor in the program to express the meaning and importance of the day, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Dr. Dilek Sema Arıcı said, “I would like to start my speech by commemorating all our martyrs and veterans, especially Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of our republic, who showed a unique example of struggle for the liberation of our country from the occupation and the establishment of the Republic. Today is the anniversary of the day we challenged the forces that want to imprison us in front of the whole world. The year is 1918. Anatolia is bleeding with its stone and soil. A silence among the Anatolian people… A stillness… There is nothing at hand. Neither cannon, nor rifle, nor a appropriate force… The wound is deep, the conditions are heavy. Anatolian people lost everything but never lost hope. These folks could do anything. As long as you can find a light for yourself. This light was born on the horizon of Samsun in 1919 and spread all over Anatolia in waves.
With this light and excitement, the first steps of the struggle that would result in victory in Anatolia were taken. Anatolian people started a struggle with their teeth and nails with their shovels and axes.
After the victory of our War of Independence, on October 29, 1923, the most suitable form of government for the character of the Turkish nation, the Republic was proclaimed. On this meaningful day when we came together on the 99th anniversary of its foundation, which is the greatest legacy left to the Turkish nation, I wish our Republic to live forever, and I congratulate your Republic Day." The program continued with the poetry readings of Hüseyin Emre Sepetçi, a 2nd year student of the Faculty of English Language Teaching.

Afterwards, the program ended with the magnificent Zeybek performance of Berke Altıngün, a 3rd year student of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Language and Speech Therapy.
