On the 1st Anniversary of the Disaster, We Still Feel the Pain of Those We Lost in Our Hearts

On 6 February 2023, 11 provinces, especially Kahramanmaraş, Hatay and Malatya, were directly affected by the 7.7 and 7.6 magnitude earthquakes that occurred consecutively and shook us all as a country with a deep pain. Today, 6 February is exactly one year since the earthquakes that we all remember with great sorrow.

This devastation has caused us to lose tens of thousands of people, and hundreds of thousands of people to be separated from their loved ones and left without a home. As Biruni University family, the necessary materials provided in the first stage to be delivered to the earthquake victims were sent to the region with our buses on the morning of the earthquake. An aid campaign was initiated by our university and the necessary materials announced by AFAD were collected and organised by our students and faculty members. The evacuation of our citizens who wanted to leave the earthquake zone was also carried out by buses within our university.

As Biruni University Hospital, we continue to provide both physical and psychological support to our earthquake victims with state-of-the-art treatment methods, expert physicians and our new hospital with a capacity of 617 beds.

After a year since the disaster of the century, we still carry the pain of our citizens we lost in our hearts. We wish God's mercy to our citizens that we lost that day and our condolences to their relatives.
